Fuerteventura - Jewel of the Canaries

Fuerteventura is the second largest of the Canaries and the least populated. It has the best beaches of all the Islands with sand blown over from the Sahara. The Island is 98 kms long by 30 kms at it's widest point. It is often called “The Caribbean” of the Canaries. Most of the island is uninhabited with a barren volcanic landscape. With average temperatures of 19c - 26c degrees throughout the year it is the perfect island to relax and get away from it all, all year round.


Tourism is biased toward families and couples with plenty for all the family to see and do. There are many bars and restaurants catering for all tastes.

Caleta de Fuste
o Caleta De Fuste also known as El Castillo (pronounced CAST-EE-O) and recently renamed Costa Caleta, lies on the east coast of the island approximately 10km south of the airport
o Caleta has a safe and popular horse shoe shaped beach
o From the harbour you can take part in many water sports such as diving, windsurfing, scuba diving & fishing, you can hire jet skies, pedaloes, etc
o From the harbour you can take a boat trip or book a a day out on the Catamaran or trip on the mini submarine
o Caleta has an abundance of bars and restaurants catering for all tastes
o There is a selection of shops and supermarkets in the town centre.
o Atlantico Shopping Centre is a short stroll down the beach or a one stop bus ride and hosts a variety of shops and a large supermarket. Also several bars, restaurants, multi screen cinema (films in Spanish) and ten pin bowling
o There is a market once a week in Caleta's main street, on Saturday morning.
o Fuerteventura's first golf course which is accredited to PGA Championship standard hosted the 2004 Spanish Open. It is equipped with a club house, restaurant, gym and swimming pool and is situated opposite the Atlantico shopping centre.
oThere are several banks with ATM machines
oBuses are cheap, very reliable and clean with air conditioning
oTaxis are cheap, clean, and air conditioned
